Where We Meet (for club and tournaments) Auburn University's Ralph B. Draughon Library [map] (which usually opens at 9:00am on Saturdays & 1:00pm on Sundays). Easiest access is to park on the top level (open sky above you) of the parking deck off Roosevelt Drive (no parking tags are required on the weekends). When you walk into the library's South Entrance, you will see a circulation desk ahead of you. Immediately before the circulation desk to the right is the "Newspaper Reading Room" where we will play. |
Don't be shy about visiting the Scrabble club! There is no membership fee or anything, and you don't even need to bring equipment (we have plenty of boards, tiles, etc). The club was founded to encourage players of all levels to learn more about competitive play. We have attendees of all skill levels, and most are just learning the basics of how to play with a clock, keep accurate score, etc. You are welcome to drop by to play games or just see what is going on. You might want to email me a couple of days in advance to be sure that we are meeting that particular Sunday. Directions to the room in the library are given in the sidebar to the right.
Club Awards
To encourage members to play in actual Scrabble tournaments, I have created various "awards" that are given to club players after acheieving various milestones.
Note that I am also happy to engrave racks with the names of other players (not associated with the Auburn Scrabble Club). As compensation I just ask that such players give me one blank rack for each rack that they want me to engrave for them (that way I slowly build a supply of racks to give to Auburn players). If interested, you may order blanks racks from the NASPA website. Either have the order shipped to me (email me for my postal address), or you can bring the racks to me if we both attend a future tournament. After engraving the racks I can either mail them to you (if you pay for shipping), or I can get them back to you in person at a future tournament.
Achievement Pins
After participating in a tournament, players can focus of getting better at the game, and as they do, they will be award "achievement pins" based on various milestones reached. Examples of such pins are pictured to the right. The letter on the face of the tile is associated with a particular achievement (with higher valued tiles representing more difficult accomplishments). For example, after winning their first game in a tournament, players will be given an "A"-achievement pin. Here is a list of all of the pins currently available at the Auburn Scrabble Club (all mentions of a "game" are assumed to be a "game played during a sanctioned tournament", not just a casual game):
