In addition to Puzzle Parties, "Puzzle Hunts" of various sorts are also popular (at least within the über-geekdom world). I, myself, participated in the 2005 Microsoft (Las Vegas themed) Puzzle Hunt. One of the eldest ones is the one put on at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Though my Parties are much lesser endeavours, all of these things belong to the same "Puzzle Event" genre.
