Pentomino Daily Calendar

This is a calendar that I have created for the year 2005. With each day of the year you are presented with a figure composed of 60 white squares. The challenge is to construct that design using the 12 plastic Pentominoes included with the calendar. Most of the figures have more than one solution, but consider it an accomplishment to find just one answer every day; it can be trickier than it looks.

Below is the answer to yesterday's figure. Other selected solutions from the past will also be available soon. The actual (unsolved) puzzles will not be readily available on this website.

Yesterday's Solution

DAY 185
Liberty Bell
This is 1 of 2 possible solutions for this puzzle.

Errata

These will not all crop up in every edition. I fix them as soon as they are discovered, so current copies should be corrected. They are listed in order of discovery.

  • 21 November: "Crescent" was misspelled.
  • 22 November: "3x10 Rectangle" should read "3x21 Rectangle".
  • 26 November: The state of Minnesota is mislabelled "Wisconsin" (sorry, guys).
  • I've learned that some of the "number of solutions" numbers are incorrect. Every configuration is still solvable at least once, but some of the puzzles which consist of two or more disjoint areas have had their solutions overcounted (symmetric solutions were not counted as the same).
