It's Berry Season!

This year's foraging season has begun. Dewberries started ripening a couple of weeks ago, and I have already picked about a gallon and a half of those. Just today I foraged, for the first time ever, a decent haul of mulberries. Below is a picture of about 4 cups of these fruit:

I'm quite hopeful that this year's foraging bounty will be much better than last year's. In March of 2023 we had a hard freeze in mid-March which seriously set back the flora in the region. This year's weather has been much better, and I expect to get much more from my expeditions.

The berries ripen, roughly, in this order:

  • dewberries
  • mulberries
  • serviceberries (juneberries)
  • blueberries
  • blackberries

Then, when summer is in full swing the other fruits start to kick in: black cherries, figs, plums, peaches...
