Front Hook: J
With the letter J we hit the first of the letters that only have a single tile in the game of Scrabble. This, of course, indicates that letter is relatively rarely used in the game (and English language as a whole). As such, one suspects that it could be difficult to find interesting front hooks for these letters. Fortunately, J proves quite cooperative.
J is for Japeries
This is another example where a great comeback play could surprise a player in Scrabble. Many players would be quite thrilled to find and play the word APERIES. Imagine their shock, then, when their opponent snaps back with a front hooked J to make JAPERIES.
There might be a hold. There might be a challenge. And there certainly could be the thought: "did that really just happen?"
Or maybe we should imagine things in a more positive light. The player of APERIES knows the front hook available, and sets up a great follow-up play...
By the way, an N may be hooked onto the front as well (for NAPERIES), so use this trickery with caution.
Honorable mentions for J:
