Above is a demonstration of a Ticker applet written specifically for ZDNet. ZDNet owns all rights to the applet and images above, and this illustration is for demonstartion purposes only (used with permission).
Unfortunately, ZDNet opted not to continue using the applet on its website:
"Everyone loved the ticker, and we never had any problems with it. The reason it was removed was that we never managed to get the JavaScript version working properly on ALL verions of Netscape 4.x, due to the way they kept changing their code between versions. This meant that we had to use the Java ticker for the 4.x browsers, with the accompanying, disastrous 'starting Java' delay. This, as you know, was never our intention, and the decision was eventually made to go with the new section and lose the ticker."
